Lakhpat was built by Fateh Mohammed, a military commander to the ruler of Kutch.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Lakhpat Fort is about a 3-hour drive from Bhuj to Lakhpat<\/strong>. On the way there from Bhuj, the road is relatively quiet, with villages on both sides of the road, and many herbs crossing the road.\u00a0The fort accommodated three religions, namely Hindu, Islam, and Sikh<strong>.\u00a0The Sikh temple and tomb of Pir Ghaus Muhammad<\/strong> welcomed pilgrims today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the far edge of India&#8217;s Arabian Sea, only 30km to the border with Pakistan, ships arrived from Sindh, East Africa, and other ports of India. Goods, like timber, textiles, and ghee, were unloaded in Katha Varo Gate. They were transported to the Custom House through Bibidullah Gate, which was guarded by two soldiers. Katha Varo Gate is no longer accessible nowadays.\u00a0The remarkably high-rise arch of the main gate was built for camel caravans.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The earthquake that occurred in 1819 changed the flow of the Indus River and brought about the fall of Lakhpat. A vast marshland is seen beyond the fort walls and guarded by border police today.\u00a0The fort is a stretch of 7 km. Pir Ghaus Muhammed was a Sufi saint and Syed, who observed both Hinduism and Islam. The caretaker of the shrine passes down for generations. The tomb&#8217;s door is painted in bright blue, and the motifs on the wall are of fine craftsmanship.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/mappingaway.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/IMG_3435-1-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-880\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity is-style-dots\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Gurudwara Sahib<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Lakhpat Gurudwara Sahib was built in the 19th century to commemorate Guru Nanak. He visited Lakhpat before embarking on his second and fourth journeys to Mecca. Buildings are in a deteriorating condition. Traders paid duties in the Custom House before uploading to the camel caravans. The caravans stayed next to the Custom House. The square in front of the Custom House was a bazaar for a period. The last standing of one of the largest merchants&#8217; houses is a ruin now. You can walk into the house courtyard through the main door. It&#8217;s known for the beach. It was a thriving port from the 18th to 19th centuries.
