It takes you to numerous Rumah Gadang (traditional houses in West Sumatra), visit coffee farms in Solok and Kerinci, lakes, and hike the volcanic Mt. Kerinci (3,805 m), and the picturesque paddy fields in Bukitinggi. You will find accommodation information and interesting pit stops on the road.

West Sumatra is for nature enthusiasts and coffee/tea lovers. Vegetation grows 2km descending from the volcanoes, drenched in sulfur rain. The 1400-meter coffee and tea plants breathe in the volcanic rocks. The narrow gorges pour into streams, turn fields into wetlands, and fertilize paddy fields. Water buffaloes pull the farmers to plow the wet fields. We got to visit three other mountains, namely Mt. Talang, Mt. Merapi, and Mt Sogo. But we chose to hike Mt. Kerinci, considered the highest active volcano in Indonesia. Mt. Merapi erupted in 2024.

Sumatra is an island of rice, spices, tea, and coffee. Speaking of coffee, the famous Ache Gayo grows in the North, and in West Sumatra, Solok and Kerinci grow the most popular highland Arabica beans.
